Volunteer in Australia
Work with Indigenous Peoples
Contribute to Indigenous community and economic development programs in Queensland, Australia! Learn about pressing Aboriginal rights issues while you help local people gain ground toward self-sufficiency. Lend a hand with childcare and painting, construction, and landscaping projects.
Throughout Australia, Indigenous people struggle with inadequate housing, health care, employment and economic opportunities. Resourceful tribes have undertaken new approaches to solving these problems. We're looking for volunteers with a pioneering spirit who enjoy "hands-on" projects. If that's you, join us in partnership with a friendly rural community that will leave you feeling invested in the futures of the people you serve.
Queensland is known as the region of Australia "where the tropics meets the reef." The coastal area is renowned for its natural beauty and cosmopolitan attractions. During free time after work, you can enjoy hikes in nearby parks or along the beach. On weekends, volunteers can explore the Great Barrier Reef, which is virtually continuous and runs along the coastline only 50km (30mi) from the shore. Considered one of the world's natural wonders, it is the most extensive reef system and the biggest structure made by living organisms on earth. In Northern Queensland (Kennedy), you can arrange trips to Green Island and Fitzroy Island, the beautiful Atherton Tableland, and the market town of Kuranda. If you volunteer in Southern Queensland, (Cherbourg), you'll have the opportunity to visit some of Australia's best beaches, vineyards, and national parks.
