Serve on village development projects in Costa Rica!
"Pura Vida" -- Costa Ricans' traditional greeting meaning "pure life" -- speaks of walking lightly and giving back to the earth. Costa Ricans are proud of their natural resources and heritage, integrating a "conservation attitude" into their daily lives.
If you enjoy measuring your efforts by the
shovels-full, this program will suit your appetite for "soft adventure," while you simultaneously make a significant contribution to a friendly rural community. Help with "hands-on" projects that leave you feeling invested in the futures of the people you serve.
Here's a place to roll up your sleeves and make a difference! The projects vary by season, and from year to year, depending upon the local need. The
Costa Rican culture values flexibility and community spirit, so our assignments change frequently.
Our
community partners in Costa Rica continuously tell us they would not have been able to accomplish all of the development projects in their respective communities without the assistance of our volunteers. Moreover, our community partners also advise that there are many years worth of construction and maintenance projects that will require volunteer help. When you visit the Monteverde region, you will be struck by the tremendous contributions volunteers have made - constructing health posts and community centers, painting and renovating schools, and offering hope to the local people. More importantly, you will be embraced by friends not previously known and develop friendships that will never end. When you leave there will be no question in your mind that you and your colleagues, those with whom you served, those who came before you and those who will follow, made and continue to make an enormous difference in the lives of the communities and the people and all other living creatures who make this incredibly beautiful place home.
Volunteers can enjoy the nearly limitless natural and cultural attractions of the mountains and cloud forests. Activities include touring Mount Arenal, one of
Costa Rica's active volcanoes, visiting a butterfly garden, or going to the Monteverde area cloud and rain forests.
Free-time arrangements and costs are your responsibility.
