Selecting a Service Program
That's Right For You

Call your volunteer coordinator at 800-487-1074 with questions on any service program.

Select by Work Project: Choose teaching, child care, health care or labor projects.  Each country description provides information on local needs, the type of work requested and any special skills required. No professional skills are necessary for the majority of our service programs.

Select by Country and Date:  Compare service program work, on-site arrangements, and free-time.  Teams are scheduled throughout the year with one- to three-week options, depending on the country, season, and project.

Select by Service Program Conditions:  The activities, facilities and geography vary significantly  by community. Do you require a hotel room?  Do you enjoy a physical challenge?  Each community is unique and conditions may change throughout the year, so consult with your volunteer coordinator with personal considerations.

Select by Cost: The wide range of service program fees, from $795 to $2,795 (U.S. funds), accommodates most everyone's budget.  Please refer to available discounts here.  Airfare is not included in the service program fee.  Page 36 explains what is included.

What Kind of Risks Could I Encounter While Traveling?

There are inherent risks and dangers that could arise when participating on a Global Volunteers service program.  These include, but are not limited to, travel on dangerous roads, different hygienic standards; infrastructure problems (including road maintenance, transportation delays and accommodation conditions); forces of nature, geographic/climatic conditions; civil unrest or terrorism; travel by motorcycle, bicycle, train, foot, automobile, aircraft, raft, boat, bus, van or other conveyance; the hazards of traveling in mountainous terrain, high altitude, undeveloped areas; and accident or illness in remote regions without means of rapid evacuation or availability of medical supplies and facilities.

Medical services or facilities may not be readily available during all or part of a service program, and, if available, may not be equal to standards in your home community.  What you consider as a normal level of medical treatment, including the presence of a physician or any other trained health-care professional and/or the availability of prescription-type drugs, may not be possible.  Furthermore, a sense of urgency, attention to detail, standards of quality, hygiene, political stability, cuisine, sanitation facilities, cleanliness, level of infrastructural development, telecommunication facilities, methods of conducting business, medical evacuation, etc., may be deemed unsatisfactory and/or not equivalent to those found in your home country or community.

Refer to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Ga., USA, for current information on health issues and precautions at www.cdc.gov.
