This new program enables volunteers to teach English conversational skills to elementary and secondary school students as well as to Chinese English teachers through their annual recertification program.

The Kunming Municipal Region Department of Education has requested English-speaking volunteers to provide a "Teaching the Teachers" program for their primary, secondary and post-secondary English teachers. This program was established in January, 2005 through the Sino American Society and Global Volunteers. Traditional Chinese teaching of English concentrates on grammar and writing needed to pass examinations.

As Beijing is the political heart of China, Xi'an is its historical center. Several primary and secondary schools, along with public and private universities host Global Volunteers in Xi'an. Volunteers teach conversational English skills in classrooms and in small groups. At summer language camps, students and volunteers meet for conversation and informal learning activities.
