Thirteenth Day of Teaching |

Annette and I used the wedding on Monday to discuss different traditions in America versus China. I talked about the beautiful dresses, flowers, toasts, throwing rice at the happy couple, the food, the dancing, and the wedding cake in America. I talked about the similarities and the differences in the traditions in the two countries. I then asked the students to tell me their favorite part of a wedding and one of their traditions. One student said that her favorite part of a wedding was the wedding cake. I responded that this was an American tradition, not a Chinese tradition. She said that it was still her favorite part of a wedding.
During the lunch break, Julia took Annette to have her nails done. The resulted from a comment made last week during the manicure lab tour. Annette said that if the students needed practice, she was available. Well, the manicure students are all away on internships so Julia took Annette to a friend’s manicure shop down the street from the school. The whole adventure took longer than anticipated so Annette was late for class. She had to explain that she was late due to having her nails done. What an example for the students!
After teaching, Annette and I wanted to go to the Stone Tablets Museum. We got there at 5:35. Unfortunately the museum closed at 5:15. This was the second trip to the museum without going inside. Maybe the third trip on Friday will be successful.
