Global Volunteers

Fifteenth Day of Teaching

Today was the last day of English class.  We were asked by the students to end the class a little early.  The students wanted to put on a small performance as a way of saying thank you and goodbye.  The performance was sweet.  There were individual songs in English and small group songs in English and Chinese.  There was a Tai Chi demonstration by three students and a traditional dance by another student.  We joined the performance and sang the Star Spangled Banner for everyone.

Following the performance we were taken to the school radio station.  Amy, one of the students, interviewed us live on the radio.  She did a very professional job.  She obviously had taken quite a bit of time to develop some thoughtful questions in English.

In the afternoon we visited the Stone Tablets Museum.  Quite an impressive collection of writings carved in stone.  This museum’s collection gives new meaning to the phrase “carved in stone”.

We had dinner with John, a former Global Volunteer program participant.  He is in China exploring opportunities to continue teaching on a long-term basis.  It was interesting to compare impressions about China with him.

The teaching is over.  We leave behind many new friends.  We hope that we have made a small contribution to world peace and understanding.
