Global Volunteers

Fifth Day of Teaching

Today, Friday, marked the conclusion of our first week and the beginning of a three day national holiday to observe the cleaning of ancestor graves.  We adjusted our teaching approach to meet the request of Julia and concentrated more on vocabulary to accompany the text on Global Warming.  Students enjoyed the interaction, sang songs, and did the Hokey Pokey.

At the end of the three hour session we sampled a Chinese hamburger before departing for the Shaanxi History museum, the second most important museum in China.  The experience was wonderful since the artifacts lived up to the reputation.  In fact, the exhibit was so large that Wes and Annette have decided to visit the museum a second time.  We all met at the hotel after dealing with Friday rush hour traffic and the lack of cabs, but all ended well with clean laundry collected at the local shop, photocopying done for the lesson next week, and another lovely dinner with new tastes.

We are pleased to be teaching about holidays in our second week, a topic that we believe will engage the students.  We look forward to the two day weekend with excursions to the West.
