Costa Rica: Communications
How can my family contact me while I am in Costa Rica?
In the event of an emergency, your family should refer to the emergency contact sheet that you will receive prior to your departure for Costa Rica. Please leave a copy with everyone who might need to reach you

Can I make international phone calls?
There are public phones and faxes locally available for you to use for international communication. However, the individual rooms in San Jose and Santa Elena do not have phones. To use the public phones you must use an international phone card which can be purchased at local shops.

Is internet service available?
There are Internet cafés in downtown Santa Elena. Please consult your team leader for additional information concerning location and usage policies. If you choose to bring a laptop, you will need to go to an internet café for an internet connection as these are not available at the hotel. While volunteers are free to bring laptops if they so desire, there are no internet connections at the hotel in Santa Elena and only a few places with wireless connections. We recommend that you leave your laptop at home and rely on the internet cafes.
