Volunteer Testimonials
"I had so much fun in Greece! The program was amazing! The work project was pretty much what I was expecting. The kids were so much fun and although I am a student myself and have never made lesson plans, it wasn't very difficult to create lessons from scratch. My friend and I taught English to the second graders, and we were pleasantly surprised that they seemed really interested in learning. They also loved all the outdoor games that we planned for them. The accomodations were great! The family-owned hotel was very quaint and we really got to know the people that owned it and worked there. The rooms were simple but we did not need anything more. The hotel was very beautiful and the pool so refreshing on a hot Grecian day. The food was great and everyone who worked there was so kind to us. I had a chance to connect with some of the local people, including the kids and several of their parents who would stop in to say hi to us at the beginning or end of classes which was nice. Samantha, the team leader, was amazing and so were all of her kids that spent time with us. She was really easy to talk to and get along with, and took us on several fun group activities that we would not have experienced otherwise. The ceremony on the last night was also great and it made us feel really appreciated! Doing this volunteer program in Greece was one of the best experiences of my life! -Megan Kassick, MN
"I believe the memories created with these children during these weeks will always be with them. When they become adults, these gestures of friendship and fellowship will still be part of who they are and will influence the decisions they make." ~ Jane Nicholl, WI
"There was a kind of sadness in parting. It made me wonder. If people of all cultures could get together on a sort of Global Volunteer premise, we might not have to listen to jet fighters outside our homes anymore. As our plane lifted off to bring me back home, I knew, that in only two weeks, Iraklion had managed to claim a little bit of my heart." ~ June Grove, IN
"I never really felt like a tourist or even an outsider. Everywhere I went, I was welcomed and felt as if I belonged. It's hard to imagine getting to know a place so well any other way. I learned that the world is a lot smaller than I had imagined." ~ Claire Chambers, TN
