India Volunteer Vacation Testimonials

"From 5-7 pm, we worked at SEAMS (South East Asia Mission School) with three individual children for 45 minutes. Each evening, we were greeted with smiles, and an offer to carry our bags and get us a chair. These children go to public school during the day in classes of often 80+. They live at SEAMS six to a room with a bathroom and a set of shelves with one trunk for each child's belongings. They do their own laundry and cleaning every day. Incredible Global Volunteers have worked side-by-side local workers to build the dormitory for these 37 children. They have now almost completed a library for the students. At present, homework is done on the floor. On our final day, the children prepared a special program of songs and dances for us as well as presenting each of us with a handmade card signed by each of the 37 children. We got very close to these students, and it wasn't without getting choked up and a few tears we left them."

"We came with the intention of teaching English to these beautiful children but we ended up discovering benefits for all that were far greater than this. Friendships were created in the spirit of tolerance and peace. We were humbled by the overwhelming kindness and care that was extended to us by the local people. We shared joy and laughter with our brothers and sisters halfway across the world and our most important work with the children was simply to offer them our love. I feel blessed to have met such beautiful human beings. It made me really consider how I am living and how my choices affect others."

“This is an extremely poor region with hardworking people who with a modicum of help can advance their own lives and the lives of others. If you truly wish to help people in need, this is the place for you.”
~Warren Williams, GA, Global Volunteers team leader

“I became especially close to three boys and four girls who were students, and I tutored them individually and in small groups.  We enjoyed our time together. I was reminded that love is a two-way street, and that physical possessions are almost meaningless to happiness. At the farewell ceremony, the kids really meant it when they said they’d miss me, they’d pray for me and waved goodbye with big grins on their faces. After this experience, I won' t take my work so seriously - nor myself. I may even have the courage to quit chasing the dollar and chase the adventure of living."
