Volunteer Vacation In N. Ireland:
With the inception of a power-sharing agreement in Northern Ireland between former unionist and nationalist foes, the decades-long peace process has dramatically shifted on the divided island. Organizations to manage new collaborative programs between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland enthusiastically embrace the challenge of healing h istoric wounds and shining a light on the future.
Our host is committed to working with individuals and communities which have suffered through the violence and polarization of the 30-year Northern Irish conflict. Each year over 6,000 participants take part in residential programs at the Corrymeela Ballycastle Centre...including secondary school students, victims of violent crimes, mothers and children, and politicians. Global Volunteers has been invited to help serve the needs of these disparate groups by assisting in program delivery, kitchen work, recreational activities and care of the physical facility. This is an unmatched opportunity to witness peace-building first-hand. No special experience is required to make a positive contribution to this important project.
