Mexico Free Time
How much free time is there during the program?
You will have ample free time each evening and on weekends to enjoy the numerous cultural, educational and natural attractions in and around the host communities.
What are free time options?
Both host communities offer a number of stimulating cultural diversions, as well as shopping opportunities. Dolores Hidalgo is a very important Mexican historical site because it has been in existence since 1810, when the Mexican revolutionary war of independence against the Spanish began. The Plaza Principal offers a number of opportunities to learn more about the country's history. The city is also known for its ceramics and ice cream.
The city of Guanajuato offers museums, churches, theaters, plazas, and markets. Also, the nearby city of San Miguel de Allende, approximately 30 miles southeast of Dolores Hidalgo, is hailed as one of the best shopping sites in Mexico.
Other points of interest are the Templo de San Francisco, the Museo de Arte de Queretaro, the Teatro de la Republica, the Convento de la Santa Cruz, and the gems and jewelry stores in San Juan del Rio.
Will Global Volunteers arrange free time for me?
No. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, Global Volunteers is prohibited from making non-program-related arrangements for you. However, our team leaders and consultants can provide general guidance and advice, including a list of activities explored and enjoyed by previous teams.
Can Global Volunteers recommend a free-time tour operator?
Our partnership with JOURNEYS International affords you a seamless add-on experience in the host country. Further, JOURNEYS donates $100 to Global Volunteers programs worldwide for each trip booked.
