Access to health care of all disciplines is lacking in many of our host commuities worldwide, especially in Africa and Latin America. To encourage and enable American medical students attending U.S. medical programs to offer their services and to learn about the pressing need for health care in the developing world, long-time Global Volunteers supporters Joyce Bonafield and Lewie Pierce have established an annual scholarship to help defray service program fees for Ecuador, Peru, India, Tanzania, Ghana, Romania, Cook Islands and Xian, China.
Full-time U.S. citizens enrolled in an accredited health care course of study (major) in an American college or university are eligible. A limited number of partial scholarships (50 percent of the service program fee up to $1,200) are available, so early application is encouraged. Deadlines are April 1st for summer. Scholarships will be awarded through the end of the year while funds are available
