Peru Free Time

How much free time is there during the program?
Ample time is available after the work day and on weekends to enjoy the numerous nearby natural and cultural attractions.

What are free-time options?
Number one on anyone's "Peru list" is Machu Picchu, the mystical Incan city nestled high in the peaks of the Andes Mountains. Other free-time opportunities include Lima's restored colonial center and many museums, markets and cafes. Several beaches dot the Pacific ocean coastline north and south of Lima, and there are many nature preserves and hiking destinations near the host community.

Located 43 miles northwest of Cuzco (the oldest continuously inhabited city on the continent), Machu Picchu was built in the late 1400s, a maze of 200 buildings, mostly residences, temples and storage facilities.

Will Global Volunteers arrange free time for me?

No. Because of Global Volunteers' non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, our team leaders and consultants are prohibited from making non-program-related arrangements for you, although they can provide general guidance and advice, including a list of activities explored and enjoyed by previous teams. Most volunteers wait until they are with the team to plan activities with their team mates. Nearby full-service tour offices can help you with such arrangements.
