Portugal Free Time

How much free time is there during the program?
Ample time is available after the work day and on weekends to enjoy the numerous nearby natural and cultural attractions.

What are free time options?
There are several excellent free time activities, including The Oceanario de Lisboa, an enormous aquarium about a ten minute walk from any of the hotels. Local sites include a castle, rebuilt by king Dinis in 1310, the Church of Santo Amaro, and Rainha D. Leonor Regional Museum. A weekend trip to Lisbon is 2.5 hours by train, or you may visit the Algarve region (1.5 hours by car) on Portugal's southern coast, which offers excellent beaches and seaside restaurants.

Will Global Volunteers arrange free time for me?
No. Because Global Volunteers is a non-profit 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization, our team leaders and consultants are prohibited from making non-program-related arrangements for you, although they can provide general guidance and advice, including a list of activities explored and enjoyed by previous teams. Most volunteers wait until they are with the team to plan activities with their teammates.
