The Iberian Peninsula, home to many different people and cultures over history, influenced the music and dance of many regions of Europe. In return, several other cultures became imbedded in the Portuguese culture. Even today, you can find types of musical instruments from different places, such as the bagpipes and the Arab adufe, but they are now and forever a part of the Portuguese culture

The majority of people live in Portugal's coastal region, close to Lisbon, her capital city. Over 95 percent identify themselves as Roman Catholic. Protestant and other religions make up the remainder. Western dress is the most common attire, however in some of the more rural areas traditional clothing is often seen.
