Work With At-Risk Children

Tutoring children either in the classroom or after school can be a rewarding work project as well as teaching English language skills. For instance, in rural communities in the U.S., you can help ease the way for new Americans to learn the culture of their new country. By teaching conversational English and engaging warm, fun-loving children in informal educational activities, you can help enhance immigrant students' and adults' ability to speak the English language. You may also have the opportunity to tutor GED students, and assist with after-school and pre-school programs.

Volunteers of all ages can be very useful, regardless of skill and background. And, if you have an area of expertise in science or math and you can explain concepts to elementary- and secondary-age students, you can be a resource in classrooms around the world. But, the learning doesn't stop there. Children enjoy organized arts and crafts activities. By sharing your special talents in music or other creative arts a few hours each day, you can stimulate and encourage their development.

Furthermore, one of the most rewarding work projects is simply playing with and holding young children, who desparately need individual attention and care. You'll have the opportunity in many of our host commnunities to reach out and share your compassion in this way....leaving the world a gentler, more caring place.

Interested volunteers can also find many opportunities to tutor children and adults.
