Romania Free Time

How much free time is there during the program?
You'll have free time each evening. In addition, Saturdays and Sundays after the first and second week are completely free to enjoy the area's historical and cultural events and attractions.

What are free-time options?
There are many interesting possibilities that you might consider during your free weekends. Visits to Transylvania at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains to see the cities of Brasov and Sinaia are especially popular and well worth the time. Near these cities you can also hike the towering slopes of the Prahova Valley and visit the legendary castle of Count Dracula. On a trip to northern Moldavia (southern Bucovina), you can visit the spectacular "Painted Monasteries." Locally, you can shop in nearby towns or hike the countryside. You can also attend a football (soccer) game, as this is the most popular spectator sport in Romania.

Will Global Volunteers arrange free time for me?
No. Because Global Volunteers is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, our team leaders and consultants are prohibited from making non-program-related arrangements for you, although they can provide general guidance and advice, including a list of activities explored and enjoyed by previous teams. Most volunteers wait until they are with the team to plan activities with their team mates.
