USA Free Time Options
Ample time is provided after the work day to enjoy local natural and culture attractions - which include museum visits, shopping at craft markets and specialty stores, hiking scenic trails, swimming and rafting, and participating in local events and celebrations. In Montana, teams attend traditional Indian "sweats," sun dances, pow-wows and rodeos. In Appalachia, local residents engage volunteers in sports, cook-outs and inpromptu music performances. As a Global Volunteer, you have the unique opportunity to experience the host community as a "non-tourist" and participate in daily activities with local residents.
Will Global Volunteers arrange free time for me?
No. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, Global Volunteers is prohibited from making
non-program-related arrangements for you. However, our team leaders and consultants can provide general
guidance and advice, including a list of activities explored and enjoyed by previous teams. Local travel agencies and tour companies can help help you explore the wider area before or after the service program. For instance, in Montana, you can enage Indian-owned "Sun Tours" or ride on a Glacier Incorporated bus for a tour of Glacier National Park. In West Virginia, you can arrange a river rafting trip from any of the local rafting companies near the host community. Many other options are available.
