Community Projects in Vietnam
Global Volunteers' unique philosophy of service ensures your work projects help advance the host community's current development vision and goals. Always serving at the invitation and under the direction of host community partners, you can make a difference in just a short time. Work with us as a short-term volunteer to help advance English - the international language of commerce, technology, and opportunity - among Hanoi's future leaders.
Our host, the Ministry of Education and Training, strives to graduate at least 1,000 qualified English teachers every year, in addition to translators, engineers, computer scientists, business people, etc. - all fluent in English. This is where you can make a significant difference!
Please note: the Vietnamese government set a maximum age of 75 years for volunteer service in Vietnam.
Nguyen Binh Khiem School has requested volunteers throughout the school year. With nearly 2,200 students in the high school (11 to 18 years) and nearly the same number in the primary school, it is one of the largest schools in Hanoi. Class size ranges from 24 to 40 students. The Foreign Trade University is a public university and is considered one of the top institutions of higher learning in Vietnam. A multidisciplinary university, it offers diversified and competitive training programs to 16,000 students, including a branch in Ho Chi Minh City.
You'll generally use standard English curriculum texts and established lesson plans, but occasionally you'll have opportunities to depart from formal lessons. For example, you can serve as a resource on topics of North American culture, including discussions on history, daily lifestyle, sports, and school systems. Some volunteers also teach American songs and games in the primary school.
"I really appreciate what the Global Volunteers do for us. You come not only like friends, teachers, and colleagues but also like angels with all enthusiasm, respect, and friendliness."
~ Nguyen Thu Huong, Foreign Trade University teacher
